Absorption and bioavailability of Resveratrol
Due to very low absorption and instability (in light, heat, low pH) and consequently poor bioavailability of resveratrol, extremely high doses should be used for its optimal effect, which can cause diarrhea and intestinal problems. At Biovis, we used an innovative and patented coacervation-based microencapsulation technology, where resveratrol dissolves in the oil phase and is surrounded by a coating of polysaccharides and proteins that prevent breakdown in stomach acid. This achieves targeted delivery to the site of absorption - to the small intestine, where the microcapsule is broken down only by pancreatic enzymes, and allows for extremely good absorption and high bioavailability. At the same time, microencapsulation also avoids the bad, bitter taste of resveratrol, which many would find difficult to consume. This form therefore has no taste and no irritating effects. Microencapsulation also ensures greater product stability, as the dry form is more prone to oxidation.
